The Swadlincote Festival of Words, featuring four days of literary fun and adventure,

exploring fiction, non-fiction, poetry and performance, is back from 20-23 March 2025!

Short Story Competition

Entries are now open for the Children's Short Story Competition as part of the 2025 Swadlincote Festival of Words.

Hosted by Holmes at Home English Tuition, the competition is open to children and young people up to the age of 16. There are 3 age categories with prizes for the winners. They are: Age 7 and under,

8-11 years, and 12-16 years.

The theme is Happiness, which can be interpreted in any way you wish. It could be a dramatic story with a happy ending, someone struggling to find happiness or just a lovely, happy story!

The competition is free to enter. Stories should be no more than 500 words and must be entered before 31 January 2025. You can present and structure your story as you wish – pictures and illustrations are welcome! Head to the Competition page for full T&Cs.
